Somerville, Massachusetts
Injury in Middlesex County, Massachusetts
First settled in 1630 as a part of Charlestown, and incorporated in 1842, Somerville, Massachusetts is today a diverse city of 75,000 located along Boston’s north border. Somerville’s location makes it a popular area for young professionals, as access to Boston is very easy through the MBTA’s Red and Orange Lines, along with bus service throughout the city. Somerville is bordered by Charlestown (City of Boston), Everett, Arlington, Cambridge, and Medford. After years of declining population in the mid 20th century, Somerville has experienced a dramatic gentrification in the past 30 years, beginning with the extension of the Red Line through the city in 1985. It continued in the 1990s with the dot com bubble and the repeal of rent control. These, among other factors, led the median home prices in Somerville to approximately quadruple in a 12 year period near the end of the 20th century.
Like neighboring Cambridge, Somerville is designed in a series of “squares,” which are distinct neighborhoods within the city. These squares include Porter Square, Davis Square, Sullivan Square, Assembly Square, Teele Square, and Ball Square. Somerville also is home to seven “hills,” which are also distinct neighborhoods. They are; Central Hill, Clarendon Hill, Cobble Hill, Plowed Hill, Prospect Hill, Spring Hill, and Winter Hill. Given our office location just a couple miles outside of Somerville, our Somerville personal injury attorneys are very familiar with the landscape of the city, and consider it our “home turf.”
Residents of Somerville will rightly argue with those from Medford that the city is the home of the world class Tufts University. Indeed, the Somerville/Medford border runs directly through the Tufts campus, meaning that each city can claim portions of the campus.
